Prof. Julian Chun-Chung Chow, Associate Professor of the School of Social Welfare at the University of California, Berkeley and a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at our University was invited to hold a Seminar on Welfare Reform and the Use of Welfare Services by Asian American Immigrants on November 25, 2011 at the United College. Prof. Chow’s expertise in and thorough understanding of issues related to the development of the American communities, welfare reform, poverty, immigration, etc, attracted nearly a hundred social work teachers and students to the Seminar. During the Seminar, Prof. Chow shared his research findings of the impact of welfare reform on Asian American immigrants and examined related welfare services available to this population. The Seminar was very stimulating that all the participants could not only gain insights into the current American social welfare provision, but also critically review on the welfare reform policies in USA and its applicability in local communities.
