Public Lecture: "Nordic Youth Work, Youth Research and Youth Policy" Prof. Helena Helve

Prof. Helena Helve, Visiting Scholar of our Department, was a renowned researcher on youth. She was invited to conduct a public lecture, 揘ordic Youth Work, Youth Research and Youth Policy?on 25 April, 2012 at the United College. The public lecture attracted many social work teachers, students and social work practitioners to attend. During the lecture, Prof. Helve gave an overview of the youth picture in Nordic countries and presented some perspectives to the development of youth issues in these states: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden and the three home rule areas- the Faroe Islands, Greenland and the 舕and Islands. She further pointed out that although there are differences in culture, politic, language and size of population within these countries, they share communality of history, welfare state system, and national goals with emphasis on human rights and equality. The welfare and development of young people are often on the agenda of various Nordic governments. The cooperation of youth research, youth policy and youth work are promoted and developed through numerous youth research organizations, youth policy legislation, and provision of youth services.
