2012 Forum on Social Construction in China and the Second “Distinguished Sociological Awards” Ceremony was held in Beijing University of Technology on March 10, 2012, attended by about 200 people.

Three scholars including Jing Tiankui received “Distinguished Sociological Book Award”, and six scholars including Feng Xiaotian received “Distinguished Sociological Paper Award”. These awards were funded by Lu Xueyi Sociological Development Foundation, which was launched by Professor Lu Xueyi in 2009 when the first Awards were nominated.

Professor Feng Hong, Party Secretary of the Committee for Disciplinary Inspection, Beijing University of Technology, congratulated the award recipients, and urged to strengthen research on social construction and publish high quality works, and make significant contributions to the reconstruction of harmonious society. Speeches were also made by Liang Lixin, Deputy Party Secretary of Beijing Federation of Social Sciences, and Professor Mao Zhenhua, Chair of the Dong Fureng Economics Development Foundation.

The ceremony was presided by Yang Ru, Party Secretary of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Beijing University of Technology.

At the forum, keynote speeches focused on social construction and social management were given by the following scholars: Professor Zheng Hangsheng, Honorary President of the Chinese Sociological Association and Director of the Center for Sociological Theory and Methods Studies, Renmin University of China; Professor Song LinFei, President of the Chinese Sociological Association; Professor Zhang Yuyan, Director of the Institute of World Politics and Economics, CASS; Professor Li Peilin, academician and Director of the Institute of Sociology, CASS; Professor Li Qiang, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Qinghua University; Professor Li Lulu, Department of Sociology, Renmin University of China; Professor Dai Jianzhong, Institute of Sociology, Beijing Academy of Social Sciences; Professor Gong Weibin, Director of the Department of Social and Cultural Studies, Chinese Academy of Governance.

In the speech of Professor Lu Xueyi, he stated that China had reached a stage of social construction, which would offer precious opportunities for the development of sociology; he urged colleagues in sociology to conduction research on social construction, produce works reflecting China’s realities, and make contributions to the construction of a harmonious society.
