Backgrounds and Aims
With the accelerating process of globalizing in these years, the cultures of people around the planet tend to merge together. On the other hand，the claim of protecting culture variety and culture identity emerges against the background of globalization. In both West and East countries, the cultural consciousness and self-identity of ethnic groups become a focus in social scientific circle. These items are also tightly related with the protection of traditions and intangible culture heritages, in which
In order to explore and investigate systematically these experiences, Centre of social & cultural anthropology study, CASS together with the Research Centre of Ethnological and Anthropological Theories & Methods, "985 Project" of Minzu University of China initiate the international Workshop on Culture Identity and Culture Protection: the Asian Practice.
Scopes and Topics
The topic of this workshop is “Culture Self-Identity and Culture Protection: Asian Practice”. The scope of discussing will include but is not limited to:
(1) the elements that compose cultural self-identity and their roles to play;
(2) the change of cultural self-identity under the impact of globalization and social change;
(3) the harmony and rectification of the protection and development of traditional culture facing the effect of superiority culture;
(4) The roles of the government and NGO play in culture protection;
(5) The culture protection sustainability and the subjectivity of the culture owners;
(6) The

Every participant to this workshop is supposed to submit a thesis in full and it’s abstract in English in advance. They are also obligated to make a speech on the workshop.
Please reply through E-mail to our workshop organizer to confirm your intention of attendance to this workshop before 30 September. The topic (in Chinese or English) of your paper to be submitted to the workshop is expected as well. If you propose new items other than the above 6 scopes, write them in your E-mail as well.
While receiving your confirm mail, the workshop organizer will send you manual of the workshop and formal inviting letter within 10 working days.
Asian Forum and the workshop organizer will take charge of the accommodation fee (including hotel, food during the workshop) for all invited participants. Only for the VIPs, the travel fee (airplane ticket) will be reimbursed as well.
Working Language
Both English and Chinese are the official language of the conference
