The Institute of Sociology has placed the great emphasis on the work of compiling research materials since its establishment. Fei Shiao-t’ung, the first appointed director of the Institute, once put forward that “it is imperative for us to build an overall center of sociological references.” For this reason, the staff of the Center make great efforts to duplicate sociological monographs and documents published in Chinese Mainland prior to 1957.
For many years, the Center have collected and compiled many sociological papers and survey reports, all of which have been filed by categories on “the categorization table of sociological materials” and put on bookshelves of the Reading Room within the Institute. In 1989 and 1992, we established the special shelves of “‘Fukutake Tadashi’s Stack” and “‘Totoki Toshichika’s Stack”, sociological books donated by these two Japanese sociologists who had kept them cherishingly for several decade years. Furthermore, the Center has digitized the main sociological works into the “database of sociological literature”.
