Since the establishment of the Research Department, many national key programs have been conducted, such as “The Status and Countermeasure against Chinese Juvenile Delinquency” taken charge by Chi Guang in 1986, “Social Transformation and the Change of Youth Values” taken charge by Xie Changkui and Lou Jingbo in 1991, and “Youth Issues in the Process of Socialist Modernization” taken charge by Shan Guangnai in 1994.

The research department has also cooperated with a variety of domestic and abroad institutes in research programs for many times, including “Labor Consciousness of Youth” cooperated with Japanese Institute of Youth Studies in 1986, “The Investigation on Life Consciousness of College Students” with Asian Youth Culture Research Society in Japanese Goma Zawa University in 1995, “National Civil Consciousness of Youth” with Hong Kong Youth Association in 1995, as well as joined the design and investigation of the program about “Orphan Issues” by China Charity Federation in 1995, took part in the program on “Social Migration of Youth” by Chinese Youth Development Foundation in 1996, and cooperated with Social Sciences Department of Hong Kong University in the program about “Community Construction and Regional Economic Development” in 1998.

This research department acceded to the edit of the academic journal Youth Studies since 1985, which was originated from ex-Institute of Youth Studies in 1979, and evaluated as the central journal for several times by National Library of China, Peking University Library and the Library Society, ranked twice as the top among the same categories of journals. Youth Studies, originally a journal with only internal circulation, has been permitted by General Administration of Press and Publishing for public issue home and abroad since 1994. The Research Committee on Sociology of Youth, Chinese Sociological Association and its secretariat are located in the Research Division on Youth, which administrates the daily work and the connection in and out about the Research Committee.
