This department was founded in 1985. It is one of the earliest research organizations of social psychology in China. This research department mainly engages in the theoretical and applied research of social psychology, and organizational work of Chinese Social Psychological Association(CSPA).Up to now, Research Section of Social Psychology has undertaken and participated in a lot of key research projects funded by the National Foundation for Social Sciences, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Institute of Sociology, CASS, and other cooperative research projects and commission research projects, such as“The Social Mentality in the Period of Social Transformation”; “The Study of Workers and Staff member’s Initiative in Large and Medium State-Owned Enterprises”; “The Resident’s Attitude towards Price Fluctuation in Five Cities”; “The Study of Enterprise Culture”; “The Kinship Relationship in the Social Change of Rural China”; “The Impact of Chinese Rural Labor’s Mobility on Rural Community, Family and Individual”; “The Study of Consumption Problem in Chinese Rural and Urban Community”; “The Study of Value Orientation”; “The Study of Interpersonal Relationship”; “The Study of Sense of Social Security”; “The Study of Chinese Character Culture”; “The Study of Internet Users’ Categorization and Personalizing Service”; “The Study of Chinese Classification of Guanxi in the Style of ‘One of Us’”; “The Study of Cultural Identity among Southeastern Asian Overseas Chinese”; “The Chinese’s Guanxi Identity Orientation”; “The Study of Savings Motivation among Rural and Urban Residents ”;“The Study of Chinese’s Life Impetus”; “Social Identity Theory and its Empirical Study” ; “The Study of Female Gender Identity”, etc. The researchers of this section have published several million words of works, translations, papers and research reports.

Department of Social Psychology sets up the CSPA Secretariat and the Editorial Department of the Journal of “Social Psychology”. Currently, CSPA has 5 specialized committees, 14 organization members, and more than 2200 individual members. Since 1992, the CSPA has held “The Congress of National Members” five times, “Academic Symposiums on Chinese Social Psychology” three times, and “Academic Symposium on the Mentality Under Market Economy” once, and academic annual conventions several times. Each specialized committee has held related annual conventions or academic symposiums several times. The quarterly Journal of “Social Psychology” was founded in 1990. Up to now, it has published 57 issues, and become the authoritative periodical of Chinese social psychology.
