An outgrowth of the Social Security Research Office, the Social Policy Research Office began to adopt its present name in 1988. It operates with a staff of 1 senior research fellows, 3 associate research fellows and 4 other PhDs or PhD candidates. Its main research areas include: social policy theories, international experience of social policy, localization of policy practices, social security, poverty and anti-poverty in cities, employment and unemployment governance, community management and community services, studies on non-profit organization, etc. Basing itself on an open-ended network of experts with social policy research centers (including experts and scholars of academia), it undertakes research in collaboration with the researchers across the institute, academy and state. Besides theoretical studies, it lays much emphasis on basic and practical studies, presenting policy recommendations for the deepening of reforms. In so doing, it has won wide attention from both the government and society with its uniquely admirable research achievements.
